WHAT WE AREThis is a meeting place for mothers (human beings) who refuse to be silent in the face of threats to equality, democracy, human rights and freedom.
This is a safe space to share opinions, information, feelings and events. Since there is so much information running rampant through Facebook, Twitter, the Blogosphere, and since there are so many of us who want to share, comment and be active, I am creating a central repository for information, gatherings, events, anything that can benefit the cause of freedom, human rights, equality and democracy.
With so much happening on a daily basis and with so many different opinions floating around, I would also like to create a space where we can share factual information. For example, what actual laws, conventions, charters, constitutions, etc. were contravened by the travel ban? I will be having regular polls to determine what we would like to know more about and then I will gather the information.
As we move forward, and as we gather members and activists (I'm not that fond of the term 'follower') we will become a voice, an agency, an organization drawing, as mothers, on our combined wealth of knowledge and strength. We can be a force for change - political, social, humanitarian. Think MADD.
N.B. This is a clean space. As many of us have children who tend to read over our shoulders, I ask that you please keep any postings and comments free from swearing and overt violence. All comments will be curated for cleanliness - NOT FOR OPINIONS COUNTER TO THE ORIGINAL POST.
WHAT I AM NOT I speak only for myself when I declare that I am not..
- an ideologue - I do not adhere to any particular political party. I am not a liberal, conservative, NDP, republican, democrat, libertarian, likudnik, etc. In my opinion, the danger of an ideology is the depths to which many might sink attempting to fit everything into the paradigm of that ideology. And the moral compromises that many might make for the sake of membership to a particular ideology. For example, one of my favourite tweets during the U.S. election stated "While you might not be a racist, voting for Donald Trump means that being a racist isn't a deal-breaker."
- a chauvinist - I believe, in my opinion, that the events of the day require us to step beyond ourselves and our social, national, religious, political groups and become citizens of the world, focused on need rather than adherence to our particularity. (I will write an entire post on this concept in the coming days.)
- promoting any particular agenda (hidden or otherwise.) While I look forward to a day when we might be proactive and set our own agenda, collectively, right now things are moving so fast and there are so many forces at play and so much need, that we must pursue the needs of the moment and I would be grateful for as much input as possible.
